Out and About in BALTIMORE BALTIMORE • Founded in 1729 • Population: 620,961 Parks PATTERSON PARK Patterson Park is one of the oldest parks in Baltimore, spanning 300 years of the city's spirited history. 1 The Pagoda, also known as the Patterson Park Observatory, offers a great view of the city. 2 The sports fields are open for use to anyone who wants to play a game, and there are public tennis courts as well. 3 Two playgrounds include a swimming pool open during summer, and a skating rink during winter. PULASKI 5 4 Marble fountain, built in 1865, was the first architectural element erected in the park. 5 Casimir Pulaski Monument honors the Polish Revolutionary War hero Casimir Pulaski who has been called "the father of Ameri- can cavalry". 6 Admirably smooth pathways for bikers, joggers, and pedestrians. 7 Boat lake where you can fish if you have a license, although this is rarely enforced. FEDERAL HILL PARK Located on the south side of the Inner Harbor, the park is considered one of Baltimore's oldest, and was incorporated into the city's park plan in 1904. 8 Fantastic views of the entire Baltimore Inner Harbor area. 9 Rich with history, Federal Hill Park was a well known lookout during the Civil War and the War of 1812.
