At Muchosol we have designed our infographics in order to explain a new phenomenon of Russian tourism to Spain, which is, without dispute, a growing trend. Spain is typically associated with beaches a...
nd sun and attracts hundreds of tourists each year, especially from Russia. The number of Russian tourists has been progressively increasing throughout the years. What do they like so much about this country? What kind of vacations do they prefer? Is it just about sun, sand and sea, as some say? With these questions in mind, we have decided to carry out a research.
As it turned out, Catalonia is the most preferred destination by Russians. It is followed by Valencian Community and Balearic Islands, whereas Murcia and Andalucia occupy fourth and fifth places in this rating. As for the stay, an average is 17 days and the most popular holiday months are June, July and September, the latter having more visits from Russia than August. May and October are also very much liked by the Russian guests. It is worth mentioning that Russian people book holidays 3 months in advance which totally makes sense since a trip to Spain is considered as a long-distance trip and demands some planning and preparation.
Russian tourists mainly travel with their families but also enjoy travelling with other families. Trips with just friends take place but they are not as frequent as the ones mentioned above. Speaking of numbers, 68% visit Spain with their families, 24% - with their and other families and only 8% with friends. What about their choice of accommodation rentals? 71% prefer renting an apartment and 29% go for villas.
Russian tourists do love spending time on the beach but greatly enjoy other types of activities as well. The study revealed that 64% of Russians visit museums and exhibitions in Spain, 48% like to indulge in SPA treatments, 32% do sport on holidays, 12% go shopping and some 8% participate in local festivities and celebrations. Moreover, the great majority (84%) loves Spanish cuisine and prefers famous paella to other dishes.
We all have keepsakes and souvenirs brought from other countries and we truly enjoy shopping for them. Russian tourists admitted that they brought home clothes, as well as traditional Spanish products, such as wine and Jamon. The study revealed that general satisfaction with the holidays on Iberian Peninsula is notably high – 96% of Russia are planning to come back to Spain any time soon.
