How Safe is Modern Day Aviation? - Infographic

MI How Safe is MODERN DAY AVIATION? The massive loss of life and catastrophic occurrence of plane crashes can cause extreme apprehension about air travel, although aviation tragedies are actually quite rare, certainly in comparison to 50 years ago. AVIATION SAFETY STATISTICS: 1965 VS 2015 In 2015, there were 17 fatal aviation accidents, causing 564 fatalities, from a total of 34 million flights carrying 3.6 billion passengers. Based on that figure, the chance of being involved in a fatal plane crash is 1 in 2 million, while 1 out of every 6.38 million air passengers died in a plane crash. In 1965, there were 87 fatal aviation accidents, causing 1,597 fatalities, with 141 million air passengers in total that year. This equates to 1 death per 88,290 passengers. The ratio of air passengers who died in 2015 is 72.3 times smaller than 50 years previously. Source: AirlineRatings.com AIR CRASHES 2015: WHERE IN THE WORLD? GREG FEITH International aviation safety & security consultant. "Since 1997, the average number of airliner accidents has shown a steady and persistent decline, for a great deal thanks to the continuing safety-driven efforts by international aviation organisations such as ICAO, IATA and the Flight Safety Foundation, and the aviation industry."
