Driving Survey Winter Warnings We surveyed 2,500 motorists to look at driver habits and get their views on many aspects of motoring, here are some of the highlights. >200 Miles 51-200 31-50 10-30 0-9 6% 18% 20% 43% 12% 43% of drivers travel between 51 and 200 miles on an average week 55% of Men have ignored official advice about extreme weather conditions 33% of Women have ignored official advice about extreme weather conditions 49% think it should be illegal 52% think it should be illegal 58% think it should be illegal to drink while driving to eat while driving to smoke while driving 58% admit to 29% ate or drank while 7% admit to smoking while driving recently speeding recently driving recently Drinking and driving 60% of women and 36% of men would only consider not drinking as being safe to drive 1-2 39% of women and 49% of men think they are safe to drive after drinking 1-2 units* 3-4 1% of women and 14% of men think they are safe to drive after drinking 2-3 units* No women but 2% of men think they are safe to drive after drinking 5 or more units* * one unit = half a pint of beer or a small glass of wine or a pub measure of spirits All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov Plc. Total sample size was 2,500 adults who have a driving licence and at least one car in their household. Fieldwork was undertaken between 6th-9th May 2011. The survey was carried out online.
