What are the differences between light truck tyres and car tyres

What are the differences between light truck tyres and car tyres? Tyres are one of the most crucial elements of any vehicle. However, with such a wide selection available, it is important to know which tyre type is right for you. Two of the most common types of tyres are light truck tyres and commercial tyres. Load capacity Firstly Light truck tyres are most suited for light and heavy-duty vehicles which regularly carry light and heavy loads. They often have a load range of 10 ply. Commercial tyres are more suited for passenger vehicles like cars, but commercial van tyres are also available. As a result, these vehicle tyres tend to have significantly less load range of around 4 ply, The more area available inside the tyre, the more air that can be put into it, which will increase the pressure and strength of the tyres, making them able to carry heavier loads. Ply Light truck tyres have more complex tread patterns with 20/32nds of tread or more. This gives them greater grip when carrying heavier loads Commercial tyres often have simpler tread patterns with 10/32nds of tread or more, which enables them to perform best on smoother terrain, like roads, to carry passengers safely. Commercial van tyres, for example, will work well in softer terrain, but the tyres have less sturdy sidewalls and are not built to resist the exterior damage that comes from certain environments. Therefore, the more durable light truck tyres will result in less maintenance when used on rougher terrain. Flexibility Because they must be able to carry heavier loads, light truck tyres are much stiffer than commercial tyres. Commercial tyres, however, are made for passenger use and are therefore more flexible, which creates a smoother ride on roads or soft terrain.
