How to prepare your Caravan What's Inside Matters! for Winter cer Thoroughly hoover and clean the interior Remove all cushions and bedding and store them in your house. (OR place them end-to-end standing up in the centre walkway) Cover furnishings with cotton sheets to avoid dust settlement Open fixed beds to aid with air circulation Clean the kitchen using caravan friendly solutions, and leave the fridge door ajar Empty cupboards and wardrobes and leave doors open to allow air to circulate Ensure all windows and roof lights are fully closed Ensure all electrical items are switched off If leaving Leisure battery in the van, periodically switch over with a spare If not leaving Leisure battery in the van, take home and connect to trickle charge Water Systems Drain water from the water heater and any on-board tanks Open all taps and leave them in a neutral position Remove shower hose and store in a safe place Remove on-board water filter Use Floe Drainage system to remove any residual water. (OR disconnect on-board water pump hose connections) Toilet Talk: Empty waste tank and flush tank Thoroughly clean the toilet and tank Clean and wipe down the valve blade that seals the toilet from the waste tank with a seal lubricant Leave the valve partially open to avoid sticking Don't Forget The Exterior! Wash and polish the exterior of your caravan Thoroughly wash and dry your awning Chassis should be brushed off and washed down Squirt door locks and hinges with WD40 Check your 12N and 12S (7-Pin) or 13-pin car to caravan connectors for signs of damage Store your caravan with the corner steadies down and handbrake off (Wheel chocks may be necessary) Turn gas bottles off at bottle neck or disconnect regulators Fit caps or cloths over the ends of any open pipework Fit security equipment such as wheel clamp and hitchlocks and ensure all doors and windows are locked.
