CURTISS SB2C HELLDIVER Dive Bombing Ascend to 7000-9000 ft to Begin Dive Bombing Wings Folded When not in use the wings of the helldiver fold to allow multiple planes on carrier decks. Wing Flaps The SB2C-3 had unperforated wing flaps which caused buffeting problems. This was a problem as the flaps were used as dive breaks. The SB2C-4 somewhat solved this problem by implementing perforated flaps for better performance in dive bombing. D105 Dive, Drop Bomb and Level Out at 1000 ft 105 Maintain Level Flight Until Able to Climb As the Helldiver accelerated to gain air speed to climb it was susceptable to being an easy target for the anti- aircraft guns of Japanese battle ships. 1000-lb (453.6-kg) Bomb Drops onto Japanese Battleship
