Evolution of the F-Series 1948 The Ford F-Series was 1953 introduced in 1948, the first of Ford trucks not based on a car F-150 chassis 1953 marked a change for naming the trucks, as the F-1 became the F-100 and the 1965 F-250 and F-350 were intro- duced. The F-Series' Twin-I-Beam front suspension was 1975 introduced in 1965, and is still used today for the F250 and F350. 1980 1/2 TON The F150 was not manufactured until 1975, as a "heavy half-ton" pickup. The F-Series was redesigned with a larger body and new chassis in 1980, in part to improve fuel efficiency and aerodynamics. 1993 1997 The Ford SVT Lightning was introduced in 1993 as a sports/performance model of the F150 The F150 received another redesign in 1997, with a more rounded styling creating a roomier interior and better 2014 fuel efficiency. 2014 was another step forward for the F-Series with the introduction of the tougher and lighter aluminum-bodied 2015 F150.
