This Week in Data January 29-February 5, 2016 US and EU authorities have come to an agreement about data sharing and how it can move across the Atlantic without infringing on European citizens' privacy and rights. With its $1.4 billion acquisition of Jasper Technologies, Cisco plans to 1.1, become more of a software vendor, gain an Internet of things stack and develop a recurring revenue cloud business model. CISCO Google recently fixed several critical security vulnerabilities within Android devices, some of which could have allowed attackers to remotely take control of the devices via Wi-Fi. SECURITY Google announced it is expanding its Safe Browsing technology to block online ads that pose a threat by deceiving users into divulging personal information or downloading malware. IBM IBM recently expanded its Cloud Data Services portfolio by launching a suite of new tools, including application database, graph processing, predictive analytics and public data set services.
