TRANSFORMING DISTRICT HEATING IN UKRAINE SSSSSS UKRAINE IS ONE OF THE 10 MOST ENERGY-INTENSIVE ECONOMIES IN THE WORLD NATURAL GAS ACCOUNTS FOR MORE THAN 40% OF UKRAINE'S TOTAL ENERGY SUPPLY DISTRICT HEATING COMPANIES ARE THE 3RD LARGEST GAS CONSUMERS IN THE COUNTRY UKRAINE IS COMMITTED TO REDUCING ENERGY INTENSITY BY 50% BY 2030 HOW DO WE GET THERE? The US$382 million District Heating Energy Efficiency Project is a part of the World Bank Group's overall assistance to Ukraine. The project will support 10 municipal heating utility companies across the country by helping them enhance quality of their services and carry out efficieĊ„cy improvements to cut production costs as well as harmful emissions. REHABILITATION OF BOILER HOUSES REPLACING NETWORK PIPES INSTALLING INDIVIDUAL HEAT SUBSTATIONS WILL HELP 3 MLN * UKRAINIANS INSTALLING HEAT METERS THE PROJECT WILL ALSO HELP: INCREASE ENERGY EFFICIENCY REDUCE CO2 EMISSIONS IMPROVE ENERGY SECURITY The project is expected to result in the reduction of more than 330,000 tons of CO2 gases by the end of the project. High energy intensity increases dependance on energy imports, decreasing security. Improved Energy efficiency will bring the country closer to modern gas-efficiency standards. The project is expected to result in savings of more than 37,000 thousand cubic meters of gas. Learn more at
