THE OFFICE OF TOMORROW Although it may take time, the technologies of today will find their way into tomorrow's offices, resulting in working environments that combine the modern with the futuristic. We take a look at what our offices could look like in 2030. ROBOT ASSISTANTS Robots will be a regular feature in offices, doing basic tasks such as cleaning, post collection and tea making. This will mean fewer entry-level opportunities, making it harder to get your foot in the door. ALGAE LAMPS The build-up of Co, throughout the day is the main reason for getting sleepy in poorly ventilated offices. Lamps containing living algae absorb CO, improving the air quality during the day. NO MORE DESKTOPS Desktop computers will be long-gone, with employees using one device that can be taken on the move or connected to a larger screen for desk-based working. DRONE DELIVERIES Drones will replace couriers, meaning the little flying machines will become a familiar site as they travel between offices transporting goods and documents. SLEEP PODS The importance of sleep is increasingly being recognised, with nap rooms already a feature in some organisations. It won't be long before this is commonplace in smaller companies too. EMPLOYEE MONITORING Wearable sensors will be used to keep track of employees' energy levels and productivity, with individuals being pulled from key meetings if they are found to be too tired. ARTIFICIAL WINDOWS In crowded cities offices with windows could be financially out- of-reach for many companies, so artificial windows emitting pleasant, natural-feeling light could become standard. 3D PRINTING Just as regular printers are an office staple now, 3D printers will become standard in many offices, and will be used to print everything from prototypes to replacement supplies.
