Mobile Device Management Cloud Report - Q2 2012

Mobile Device Management Cloud Report Q2 2012 This is the third in a series of quarterly reports on mobile device management cloud practices based on aggregate data from Zenprise customers who have deployed Mobile Device Management in Zencloud TM. Q2 data highlights some interesting points: Mobile business initiatives are gaining traction in a big way. Between an increase in policies that lock down devices and strong growth in business apps in Zencloud, we believe there is a shift toward devices used for line-of-business work. The top 25 apps in the Zenprise Enterprise App Catalogue more than doubled this quarter over last. We believe this indicates that organizations are deploying-and getting more value from-mobile business apps. More customers are locking down devices by restricting device resources and apps. We believe this signals an increase in corporate-owned devices within the overall mix. Customers are making more use of device policies that protect corporate data. With an increase in passcode deployment and Mobile App Tunnels, as well as continued strong use of Mobile DLP, customers are more aggressive about protecting data. Device Enrollment SYMBIAN 1% WINDOWS WINDOWS MOBILE 4% MOBILE 8% ANDROID 28% IOS 56% IOS 67% IOS 35% ANDROID 36% ANDROID 65% North America Europe/Middle East/Africa Asia Pacific/Japan Similar to last quarter, the iOS platform continues to lead in devices enrolled in Zencloud, with iOS at 58%, Android at 35%, Windows Mobile at 7%, and Symbian at 0.2%. Global Enrollment and Qtr./Qtr. Trending by Platform North America (accounting for 70% of device enrollments worldwide) mirrors the overall trend, with iOS at 56%, Android at 36%, and Windows Mobile at 8%. Europe, Middle East, and Africa (accounting for 24% of device enrollments worldwide) has an even higher iOS penetration, with iOS at 67%, Android at 28%, Windows Mobile at 4%, and Symbian at 1%. In Asia iOS 58% Pacific/Japan (accounting for 6% of device enrollments worldwide), Android enrollments continue to dominate, through not as dramatically, with Android at 65% and iOS at 35%. We believe the Asia Pacific/Japan numbers may continue to be skewed by several large INDROID 35% deployments and Zenprise relationships with Android handset manufacturers in that region. Despite growth in iOS enrollments, Android enrollments gained share as well, moving from Windows 7% 31% in Q1 to 35% in Q2. Anecdotally, a number of customers are replacing their Mobile corporate-issued Windows Mobile deployments with Android ones. Add strong growth in corporate iPad initiatives, line-of-business-oriented policies (like app restrictions), and growth in app whitelistings and apps overall, and all that points to strong growth of organizations using symbian 0.2% mobile devices for business initiatives. Policy Deployments Customers are making more use of device policies that protect corporate use for line-of-business work versus ones that employees want to data. The most common policy deployed in Zencloud remains the use for email and basic access, we believe this indicates a rise in mobile being used for business initiatives. This is supported by our other findings (an increase in app whitelistings and strong growth in passcode at 54%. This is nearly a ten-point increase from last quarter. That taken together with the continued use and growth of features such as Zenprise Mobile DLP, Zenprise Mobile App Tunnels, and app business apps in the Zenprise Enterprise App Catalogue) as well as blacklisting indicates customers are getting more aggressive about anecdotal data from our customers who are pursuing initiatives from protecting mobilizing flight schedules in airlines, to field audits in oil and gas, to valet service in hospitality. Other policies deployed include VPN at The second most common policy-and the one that saw the highest growth-is the restriction of device resources or apps (such as Google 25%, GPS at 24%, Wi-Fi at 28%, and certificate services for Play, the device camera, and Bluetooth) at 34%.
