THE FUTURE OF SMARTPHONES Go gle Samsung GALAXY SV iPhone 5S nexus SEPTEMBER OCTOBER APRIL/MAY 2014 2013 2013 $849 $869 $499 Google's Nexus 5 is linked with an October launch date, and so far it seems that LG is back on OEM duties with reports claiming the Nexus 5 will be at Recent reports have claimed that the An iPhone 5S fingerprint reader has long been rumored, and turned out to be correct. It also packs the worlds first processor with 64-bit support. Samsung Galaxy S5 specs sheet could be polstered a comp LG G2 handset. The Nexus 5 is 16-megapixel rear-mounted camera thought to be the first Android device that will run Google's Android KitKat update (version 4.4) and 3GB of RAM, SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 NEWS • Newly emerged Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours have claimed the upcoming handset will make use of a new 16-megapixel smart- phone camera sensor, offering high-end snaps that will finally spell the end for the dedicated compact camera. • According to recent reports, the Samsung Galaxy S5 specs sheet will see the new 16-megapixel camera sensor further bolstered by optical image stabilisation features. • Further reports have suggested the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date will see the handset line up with 3GB of RAM in tow. • There are also rumours that Samsung may stay away from their usual plastic body housing and opt for a stronger cover such as HTC did with the HTC One. Samsung GALÁXY SV IPHONE 5S NEWS The iPhone 5S is the first smartphone with full 64-bit support and a capacitive fingerprint sensor, and it also ships with a fresh, revamped version of iOS. The 5S also features a 4-inch, 1,136 x 640 Retina display with a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch, a brightness rating of 500 nits and an 800:1 contrast ratio. Apple integrated a state-of-the-art capacitive fingerprint sensor into the home button itself and protected it with a sturdy sapphire crystal overlay. It's embedded so well, in fact, that the giveaway that it's a fingerprint reader is the silver ring encircling the sensor. That steel ring acts as a trigger, which detects your finger and then initiates the scan. The iPhone 5S and 5C have officially been released on the 20th of September 2013. Like the iPhone 5 and 4s before it, the iSight rear camera in the 5s offers a maximum resolution of eight megapixels. However, it benefits from a larger pixel size (1.5µm vs. 1.4um) and larger aperture (f/2.2 vs. f/2.4). Between those two improvements, Apple claims the 5s benefits from a 33 percent increase in light sensitivity. iPhone GOOGLE NEXUS 5 NEWS Google Nexus 5 Release Date Although there has, as yet, been no official word from Google as to when the Nexus 5 will be released, several rumours havesug- gested that it will launch in October. Given the Nexus 5 could be just weeks from arrival, the recent Nexus 4 price cut would suggest the search giant is already preparing for its next flagship phone. What's more, retailers have already started pulling the Google Nexus 4 from shelves. In May, both Phones 4u and Carphone Warehouse reportedly stopped selling the Nexus 4, then in July the Nexus 4 disappeared from the Carphone Warehouse site entirely. Having a quick scan of all the UK network providers, the Nexus 4 is conspicuously absent, only listed as out of stock on the 02 website, and completely missing from the rest. • This could suggest a Google Nexus 5 release date may be upon us earlier than October, but of course this is just speculation on our part, especially as the Nexus 4 is still available to pruchase on the Google Play store although at a reduced price. nexus THE FUTURE OF SMARTPHONES SAMSUNG
