Driverless Cars: The Future Of Driving?

DRIVERLESS CARS THE FUTURE OF DRIVING? HOW WILL DRIVERLESS CARS WORK? Rather than writing tons of paragraphs and trying to explain the ins and outs of how autonomous cars are expected to work, we've decided use short and simple annotations to give you an idea of how they are expected to function in 5 simple steps. This is a public transport example aka taxi or mini cab. A button calls the vehicle to pick up the passenger. Once the vehicle arrives, the passenger(s) board the vehicle. Similar to a parking meter, these would be designated "pressing points" The passenger then picks their destination using a touch-screen on board GPS-style system. Sit back and relax whilst the autonomous vehicle drives you to your destination. The passenger(s) exits the vehicle. Wallah! LEGAL TESTING California Nevada Florida District of Columbia Greenwich Bristol Coventry Milton Keynes There are currently only a few places where the testing of these vehicles is permitted. Google's Driverless Cars: How They Work VIDEO CAMERA LIDAR POSITION ESTIMATOR Mounted near the rear-view mirror, the camera detects traffic lights and any moving objects. A rotating sensor on the roof scans the area in a radius of 60 metres for creation of a dynamic, three- dimensional map of the environment. A sensor mounted on the left rear wheel measures lateral movements and determines the car's position on the map. DISTANCE SENSORS Four radars, three in the front bumper and one in the rear bumper, measure distances to various obstacdes and allow the system to reduce the speed of the car.
