Cracking Your Car's Da VInci Code

Cracking Your Car's DA VINCI CODE Every vehicle has an identification number that can reveal its dee pest secrets to those who can unlock it. Here is the key. 1GCDK23U34F230614 | 1 9 || 10 12 13 14 15 16 17 | 11 The 1st digit identifies the country of origin. Some countries use numbers (the U.S. is 1,4 or 5), but most use letters. The 10th to 17th digits will indentify a unique vehicle. The 10th digit is the model year. Every letter (except I, 0, Q, U and Z) and single-digit number represents a year. It started in 1980 with A and cycles every 30 years, so A can also mean 2010. In the above example, 4 = 2004. The 2nd letter identifies the Manufacturer. This can be combined with the first digit of countries that use the same letter. So VA-VE are manufactures in Austria, VF-VR are from France, and VS-VW are from Spain. The 11th digit is the plant code and is unique to each manufacturer. In the above example, F = Flint, Michigan. The 12th to 17th digit are sequential and, like a serial number, every vehicte will have its own. The 3rd digit is the division within the manufacturer. So GC is General Motors and then Chevrolet. The 4th to 9th digits are the Vehicle Descriptor Section and vary by manufacture. In the above example: The 4th digit is for weight, D= 5,001-6,000 lbs The 5th digit is for chassis type, K = 4x4 full-size pickup The 6th digit is for series, 2= 3/4 ton & 2500 The 7th digit is for body type, 3= four-door cab The 8th digit is for engine type, U = 8 cyl. 6.0L (336 c.i.d) fuel injected The 9th digit is always the check digit for North American vehicles! VALIDATE VINS WITH YOUR MIND To identify fake (and real) VINS, do the following: 1. Transliterate the letters (turn them into numbers) with the following. C,L,T=3 D,M,U=4 E,N,V=5. R,Z=9 A,J=1 FW=6 B,K=2 G,P,X=7 H,Y=8 Then take your new number sequence 17 3 4 2 2 3 4 3 4 6 2 3 0 6 1 4 And multiply each number by the following sequence x 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 10 0 9 87654 3 2 8 49 18 20 866 40 0 36 48 14 18 0 24 38 Then add them all up to get the sum: 333 And divide by 11. + 11 30 %3D The remainder is also your check digit 1 G C D K 2 3 U 3 4 F 2 3 0 6 1 4 If the remainder is 10 then yourcheck digit is X. If the remainder is not your check digit, then the VIN is fake or invalid. MATH WHIZ PRO TIP To find the remainder with a calculator do the following for the above example: 333/11 = 30.27272727 Take the decimal part, .27272727, multiply it by 11 and you get 3, the remainder. byJess.Net
