The Basics of Photo Resolution

The Basics Of Photo Resolution The vast array of acronyms in the photographic world can often be quite confusing. Photo resolution is often the subject of much head-scratching. Here's a handy guide that will talk you through the basicS: Each digital image contains a small descriptor called a pixel Pixels are the digital equivalent of "paint blotches" on pointillism artwork 0100 = 1011 0100 Each pixel contains numbers - "bits" that describe their color and intensity The precision of each pixel's colour is known as "colour depth" What is PPI? PPI is an acronym for Pixels Per Inch - a measure of pixel density on digital devices It's a universal way to describe image quality. regardless of the device used It describes the pixels contained in each horizontal or vertical inch of an image What is DPI? DPI is an acronym for Dots Per Inch - often misused to explain PPI DPI is arithmetic - it's the photo's pixel dimensions divided by the printed раper size. It describes the number of printed "dots" needed to make up an inch of print MEGAPIXELS and PRINT SIZES MEGAPIXEL = one million pixels The more megapixels a digital camera has, the higher the native print quality (PPI): 2 megapixels 3 megapixels 5.8" 7.1" 300 PPI 3.8" 300 PPI 4.7" 4 megapixels 8 megapixels 8.2" 11.5" 5.4" 300 PPI 7.7" 300 PPI 16 megapixels 16.3" 10.9" 300 PPI At Parrot Print, we use our own proprietary method to resize your original image up to 800% of it's above original size without any discernable pixelation. Photography Trivia The world's first digital camera got designed by Eastman Kodak in 1975 The first production digital camera was the Fuji DS-X in 1990 It saved 0.01 megapixel It took 0.4 megapixel images, saved onto a 2MB memory card black and white photos to a cassette PARROTPRINT BRING YOUR IMAGES TO LIFE Sources: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/digital-camera-pixel.htm http://petapixel.com/2010/08/05/the-worlds-first-digital-camera-by-kodak-and-steve-sasson/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_camera#Arrival_of_true_digital_cameras http://www.digicamhistory.com/Fuji%20DS-X.html
