Intriguing developments have come out of Silicon Valley today, with leaked documents showing the ‘Apple Columbus’ – a handset that appears to have been set for release in 2000, just a few months...
after the Nokia 3210.
Whilst the phone lacked the legendary game of ‘Snake’, it had some other nifty features that surely would have gone down a storm almost two decades ago.
An ex-long-term employee of the company suggested that the phone was revolutionary for its time, having a week-long battery life and ‘mood sensors’ that changed the colour of the device automatically based on how the user was feeling, whilst it’s only game was a built-in Tamagotchi.
With music downloads not even being invented at the time – creating ringtones on composer was all the rage back then – Apple were set to giveaway free hard copies of U2’s forthcoming album “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” alongside the device.
Last minute fears that the product would just be seen as a 3210 copycat and a lack of confidence after the failings of the Apple MessagePad meant that the device never saw the light of day.
Would this have been a rival to the famous unbreakable Nokia, or was Snake just too important to you when you were younger?
