Anatomy of an Ideal Robot

Anatomy of an Ideal Robot Robots are designed to help human beings. So what would make the perfect bot? ITEM NO. 002: Appearance ITEM NO. 001: Intelligence Artificial Intelengence (AI) is a measure of how "clever" a machine is. The Turing Test is used to measure how smart a machine is in comparison to a human. How a robot looks iş important. A humanoid appearance will make a robot endearing, but if a robot looks too human-like it will unnerve humans. this is known as "The Uncanny Valley Effect". uncanny valley moving still healthy bunraku puppet person humanoid robot stuffed animal industrial robot human likeness 50% 100% corpse prosthetic hand zombie ITEM NO. 003: Conscience Science fiction author Isaac Asimov laid down the "Three Laws of Robotics" in his novel I, Robot published in 1942. These rules are still used to monitor robot behaviour, effectively giving robots a conscience. 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey orders given to it by a human being except where such orders would conflict with the first law 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second laws. ITEM NO. 004: Long Life Robots need to be operational for as long as possible and, due to the cost involved in making them, they will need to be durable too. Current generation robot vacuum cleaners will only operate for a few hours at a time on full charge so we may be a long while away from robot butlers. ukļautomation> familiarity
