In a country like India where cricket is treated similar to a religion, it is not easy to compete with a million other talented young people in the sportsarena and make a way to the national team. Bu...
t ViratKohli, the epitome of aggressive sportsmanship and confidence not just made a way to the Indian team but also became a captain and a cricketer loved by all the millions of fans of the cricket all over the world. ViratKohli had a long and inspiring journey ,right from a small kid who played for the local cricket teams to the captain of Indian cricket team,. Today, this right handed middle order batsman is not just another captain that the team has , but one of the most efficient captains the team have ever had.
Born in Delhi on 5 November 1988 ,to the criminal lawyer PremKohli and Saroj, Virat had a very normal childhood like other kids. Virat played such good ‘gully cricket’ at the age of nine that his neighbours were astonished by his talent and they would suggest his father to get him professionally coached for cricket. Soon he was admitted to the West Delhi Cricket Academy, from where he was chosen to play for the Under-15 cricket team.Kohli trained at the academy under Rajkumar Sharma and also was selected to play matches at the SumitDogra Academy nearbyNoida at the same time.
He was also selected for Under 17 and Under 19 teams soon after. In both the teams, Kohli was known for being a highly skilful and hard-working player. He was one of the best players, which gave him a chance to become a captain and lead the U-19 team to the famous Under 19 World Cup in the year 2008.
He was inevitably noticed and bought by the Franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore team for the IPL. In his very first international match against Sri Lanka in 2008, he was given a chance to play as an opening batsman since the other senior players of the team were not well. He was made to bat at number 4 for team India in the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy because of the injury caused to YuvrajSingh.A few more tournaments and an ICC world cup in 2009 later, he was made the Vice Captain in June 2010 in tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.A largely inexperienced squad was selected for the test debut between West Indies and India held at Sabina park on june 20,2011.Kohli was among them.In October 2011, Kohli was the leading run-scorer of the ODI Series against England which India won (5–0) there by Kohli scoring 270 runs across five matches with a hundred and a half century. He was also selected in India's Test squad for the Australian tour in December 2011 thereby taking number 6 position after exclusion of Yuvraj Singh from Test squad.
His very first World Cup 1 saw India winning the trophy after twenty eight long years. Kohli famously scored a century in one of the matches. He was appointed the vice-captain for the Asia Cup 2012 in Bangladesh on the basis of his performance in Australia. The position of captain was not very far away for this talented player who was made to captain the team for a tournament against Zimbabwe in 2013 as well.
Although he had a successful time when West Indies toured India in October 2014.In January 2015, India failed to win a single match in the tri-nation ODI series against the hosts Australia and England. Kohli was not able to replicate his Test success in ODIs, thereby failing to make a two-digit score in any of the four games.
Popularly known to have a blend of Dravid’s intensity, Sehwag’s audacity and Sachin’s intelligent style of batting, Kohli is regarded as one of the strongest captains the Indian team ever had. And someone with such a great talent definitely deserves the demi-god status that a cricketer often receives in India. Virat is presently romantically linked with an Indian film actress, Anushka Sharma.
