The main 2 certification bodies are called PADI and SSI. PADI Overview PADI has over 27 million PADI divers worldwide making them the world's largest scuba training agency. PADI is in over 183 countries with dive centers to resorts around the world. SSI Overview Ssi has been around for over 50 years. Today they are in more than 110 countries with dive centers to resorts around the world. Open Water Cert Both the PADI or SSI Open Water Certifications are very similar. They are 3 main sections to the Open Water certification. Starting with the scuba diving theory, then the shallow water practices diving skills, and then 4 open water dives. ist Different The flexibility teaching is the first difference is that PADI strictly sticks to the plan while SSI is more flexible, in terms that you still have to pass the course and practice the skills but the order is not strict. 2rd Different You will ne to buy the course manual, which is required by PADI.
