Jenson Button finally broke his F1 victory duck on a day for ducks in style, battling back from 14th on th grid to claim a famous win for Honda Fernando Alonso claimed his maiden victory with a faultless lights-to-flag victory for the increasingly competitive Renault team, in turn becoming the youngest F1 winner at the time a famous victory LOCATION The Hungaroring is located in the town of Mogyorod, but is best associated with the Hungarian capital city of Budapest, which is less than 20km away. A city known for its history, beauty and culture, the mid-summer jaunt to Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix makes it a particularly popular event, even before you consider it is the 'home' race for many surrounding countries, with large influxes from Finland, Germany, Austria and Poland, amongst others. HISTORY A race that emerged from Bernie Ecclestone's desire to have a Grand Prix behind the 'Iron Curtain' (though a race was originally pitched at the USSR) Hungary instead got the nod to host the first Eastern European F1 event in 1986. Held at a new, purpose-built venue - after the proposed inner city circuit was shelved - the Hungaroring has become a mainstay on the calendar ever since. Opinions differ about the circuit; its twisty layout, high kerbs, minimal overtaking points and relentless corners (which are often made more arduous by the typical high temperatures) have earnt it a reputation as a 'Monaco without the walls! Layout changes in 2003, which saw a slower first corner and revisions to turn twelve, were well received, but while Alonso and Hamilton are fans, many others are not.
