There is so little room inside a Formula 1 car that drivers must remove the steering wheel to get in and out. 3 130 150no 90 10 km/h 10 (30 150 no 90 In Formula 1 racing, cars can accelerate from 0 to 160 kph before decelerating back to 0 in only four seconds! km/h 190 30 30 10 10 2 4. seconds 1000C An F1 car experiences a huge deceleration when it brakes. The carbon fibre brake discs can reach temperatures as high as 1000 degrees centigrade! 5 Due to the high G forces F1 drivers have to endure, as well as the extreme temperatures, they can lose a great deal of weight through the exertion and sweat during a race - on average, about 4kgs! During a race, even the tyres lose weight - approximately half a kilogram. Whereas a road car tyre should last for up to 100,000 km of use, racing tyres only last around 100 km. Instead of air, the tyres are usually filled with nitrogen which holds a more consistent pressure. 7 It's not only the cars that are fast – they can be refuelled super-quick, too, as quick as 12 litres per second! Using the same equipment, a road car can be filled in less than 4 seconds! 8 While the engine of a road car can last up to 20 years, F1 engines are done after a couple of hours racing! The private registration FI is perhaps the most expensive in the world. Owned by Afzal Kahn of Kahn Design, it has been valued as high as £12 million!
