HEROES OF THE HALL CANADA'S SPORTS HALL OF FAME WAYNE GRETZKY Known as the greatest hockey player in history, Wayne Gretzky set the bar for true grace in the sport. This Canadian has claimed nine NHL MVP trophies, 10 Art Ross Trophies for most points and multiple Stanley Cup wins. ARATHO OF HOP TERRY FOX Terry Fox's determination and inspiration stretched far beyond athletics. This man, who had his leg amputated because of cancer, recovered to become a formidable marathon runner and ran a trans-Canada trek to raise funds to research the disease. NANCY RICK GREENE HANSEN Voted Canada's greatest female athlete of the 20th century, Nancy Greene has the credentials to back up the title. Her major achievements include capturing the gold in the 1968 Olympics on the Giant Slalom. Later, Greene would become a Canadian Senator. A fixture of the Paralympic Games of the early 1980s, Rick Hansen took a total of six medals in the games held in 1980 and 1984. Coming back from a spinal cord injury when 15 that left him paralyzed, Hansen provided inspira- tion with his Man in Motion World Tour, where he visited 34 countries over more than two years, logging 40,000km. GORDIE HOWE Known as Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe played the game profes- sionally over five decades. He was named MVP six times in the NHL and led in scoring six times as well, and helped the Detroit Red Wings win the Stanley Cup four times. Though his records for goals and points have been eclipsed, it's unlikely anyone will ever play more games than Howe did. SILKEN LAUMANN Silken Laumann proved a force to be reckoned with in Women's rowing for over a decade. Born in Mississauga, Laumann earned Olympic medals in both single and double sculls. In 1992, Laumann overcame a debilitating accident just months before the games to capture bronze at Barcelona.
