Impact of cancer support services - Canadian Cancer Society

The impact of our online and phone support programs in 2012-13 In 2012-13, with the generous support of our donors and volunteers, the Canadian Cancer Society's online and phone support services improved the quality of life for Canadians touched by cancer. We help people have a better quality of life A recent survey' showed that almost 35,500 cancer patients and caregivers contacted our Cancer Information Service (CIS) or peer support programs and improved their quality of life in the following ways: Feeling more supported Coping better 89% CIS 85% 91% CIS PEER PEER 93% Being less anxious Understanding cancer better 89% 78% 78% CIS CIS PEER PEER 88% Communicating better Finding services in the community 83% 63% 79%|||| CIS CIS PEER PEER 76% Cancer patients and caregivers reported a high level of satisfaction (CIS 87%, Peer 84%), and almost all said they would use these services again (CIS 97%, Peer 95%). 1 Survey conducted by the Propel Centre for Population Health Impact. Propel was founded by the Canadian Cancer Society and the University of Waterloo. I was so stressed when I called, but talking to you has eased my anxiety. Thank you so much. We engage people through social media Canadians are engaged in the fight against cancer on social platforms: 38,778 FANS ON FACEBOOK 23,600 FOLLOWERS ON TWITTER 15,796 RELAY FOR LIFE FANS ON OUR RELAY FOR LIFE FACEBOOK PAGE We support and encourage people who need our help 55,322 Canadians requested information about cancer CANCER INFORMATION 54% of inquiries were from patients/families/friends SERVICE PEER SUPPORT 5,387 cancer patients and caregivers were connected with people who have had similar cancer experiences ONLINE COMMUNITY CANCERCONNECTION.CA 35,000 visitors from 110 countries, with 2,100 registered members CANCER.CA Over 5 million visits 5 MILLION SMOKERS' 37,500 smokers contacted the Society by phone or online for help to quit smoking HELPLINE Phoning the Canadian Cancer Society, this one easy step, opened all the avenues I needed to become empowered and to get support. I really appreciated everyone who helped me. Your call back to check in with me has been so important. We help cancer patients and caregivers in the language of their choice Cancer Information Service provided information to 164 clients in 14 different languages other than English and French last year through an interpreter service I love my peer support match!
