10 Ways to Use Twitter Lists

10 Ways to Use Twitter Lists Twitter lists make it easy to organize your network and allow you to keep up with people whether you follow themor not. The possible ways to use them are endless, with a lot of things you'd have never thought of. Luckily, we turned to some pros and asked for their ideas. The best use of them l've found personally is for events. For Social Slam, we create public Twitter lists of all speakers to enable our attendees to follow them, as well as all attendees we have a Twitter handle for, to make it easy for people to connect online before, during and after the conference. People absolutely love it! - Nicole Denton, Lead Organizer of Social Slam Contest I was recently admitted to Columbia's Journalism School and a fellow student has created a list of other students that were admitted to follow, which I think is a cool way to be in touch before classes start. - Lauren Hard. Reporter/Host at Martini Productions NYC I use Twitter to connect with various media outlets and to help my clients communicate with their various audiences. I created a list called "PR leads" that follows media query services, and another private list called "monitor for clients" that tracks our top tier media targets. Alison Kenney, Independent PR Consultant Ithink the most common use is a Twitter list for customers. We always want to see what they're up to and if we can promote their products/services. It makes it really easy to find them when you have a list of customers at the ready. - Taylor Aldredge, Ambassador of Buzz at Grasshopper We go through once a week and add everybody who has mentioned us or our company into a "Fan" list. Whenever there is down time, employees can log on and interact with this list. This way, we're constantly interacting with people who share out things with others. - Will Mitchell. Founder at StartupBros My most fun list is a public list called FightClub. This list only follows two people, Tony Messenger, Editorial Page Editor for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and Mark Reardon, afternoon host on KMOX Radio. Those two are always going at it, and the list was a fun way to follow their banter with ease. - Mark Sutherland. Chief Communications Officer at Elasticity I rely heavily on lists to organize the users into different categories representing my various areas of interest, such as WordPress & Web Design, Blog/Social Media/Mktg, and Lifestyle. This allows me to be more focused when I sit down to use Twitter, so instead of a stream of unrelated tweets, I can simply open whichever list I feel like browsing at the moment. - Janet Barclay, Co-Owner of Organized Assistant I use Twitter lists to keep track of journalists that write about our industry. It allows me to see every tweet they make without them getting lost in my main feed. This is incredibly helpful as I can start conversations with them so they know who we are and also so I will never miss a time when they directly ask for people to help with stories. - Mike Essex, Online Marketing Manager at Koozai We always want to monitor what our clients' competitors are doing, so to make it easy for us to manage for each client we create private lists and follow direct competitors, indirect competitors, employees of competitors and so on on those lists. This way we can keep tabs on what they are doing and collect stats like popular keywords and trends within that group and see who they are chatting with. - Shawna Tregunna, Founder of ReSoMe On my personal account, I participate in a lot of Twitter chats. Talking to the same people week after week, you grow close and want to catch up with them throughout the week, as well. To make this easy, I have a list for each of my favorite Twitter chats with the attendees I talk to the most in each chat. - Brittany Berger, Content Coordinator at Created by: @eZangalnc
