The positives of galvanising steel

JAMES DUNKERLEY STEELS LIMITED STOCKHOLDING • FABRICATION • PROCESSING THE POSITIVES OF GALVANISING STEEL RECYCLABLE RESOURCE EFFICIENT Whether it's re-galvanizing, removal or reuse, galvanized steel is easily recycled. What's more, it can also be recycled with steel scrap. The galvanizing process uses natural resources considerately to ensure a relatively low environmental burden. LONG LIFE PUBLIC FUNDING Hot dip galvanizing protects against corrosion and prolongs the life of steel, greatly lowering the environmental and economic cost. Many public housing and public infrastructure projects use galvanised steel. This helps reduce ongoing maintenance costs, freeing up public funding to be used elsewhere. SUSTAINABILITY DURABILITY Coupled with considerably extended life cycles, galvanised steel can be easily reused, removed and recycled and importantly can also be recycled with scrap steel. Zinc uzed for galvanisation is also considerately sourced. A galvanised coating as little as a thickness of 85 microns, the thickness of a piece of a4 paper can protect steel structures for an estimated 85 years, weathering at an estimated micron a year within inland areas. QUICK PROCESS PREDICTABLE WEATHERING Due to the highly efficient logistics and uniform process in which steel is galvanised, the turnover of the steel galvanisation process can be reduced to 24 hours with suitable preparation. The lifespan of galvanised steel is linear and predictable relative to the coating thickness. This allows for accurate lifespan forecasts, assuming climatic conditions remain stable. COST EFFECTIVE PREVENTS SIDEWAYS CREEP To evaluate galvanising costs, an independent consultancy produced a typical, 240 tonne, steel-framed building tender. The comparative paint system was quoted to be 35% more expensive than hot dip galvanizing. One of the most common issues with paint coatings is the prevalence of sideways creep, when rust on the exposed bare steel spreads, compromising the paint coating. The metallurgical bond of galvanised steel prevents this. www.DUNKERLEY.CO.UK
