Meteorite Falls 1900-2013. After posting a few infographics to Visualizing.org, I get an email to participate in a challenge for visualizing meteorite falls, with a week deadline. Being in the middle ... of other projects, including the portfolio extra Doctor Who graphic, it did rest a little on the backburner, simmering some thoughts and approaches until I could jump on it. Funny what I was able do in 24 hours, up against a deadline, with no promise of any kind of direct payment, but armed with someone else’s data that I didn’t have to go and research… well, maybe a little extra, got to read up on meteorite classes and looked to compare falls with the geomagnetic field. Added a little time and challenge for myself by going with the polar coordinates. It amazes me that there isn’t a graphing tool in Adobe’s software for these coordinates yet, which will currently add a little circuitous route to accomplishing this kind of design. Also went a little less than traditional by omitting the Earth’s landmasses, feeling that the meteorite sites connote that just fine, also playing into the implication of missing a large amount of meteorites which fall to the oceans.
