The Armed Forces Compensation Scheme

THE ARMED FORCES COMPENSATION SCHEME The Armed Forces and Reserve Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) came into force 6 April 2005 This scheme replaced the previous compensation arrangements provided by the War Pensions Scheme (WPS) and the attributable elements of the Armed Forces Pensions Scheme. The following graphics will visualise the total number of claims made between 6 April 2005 and 30 September 2013. We look at changes over time, claim type, severity of injury, by region and the age of the claimant. Total number of claims *2013/14 data only represents a6month period. Under the AFCS, a claim can be made and approved while still in Service. A tax-free lump sum payment is made to a Service or ex-Service person as compensation for pain and suffering caused or made worse by Service.
