Hydraulics Used in Waste Disposal Vehicles

VHS Hydraulic Components Complete Hydraulle Component Supply HYDRAULICS USED IN VWASTE DISPOSAL VEHICLES There are various different types of waste disposal vehicles. Although they are nearly always mounted onto the body of a lorry, they can be designed to load waste from the front, side, or as is most common in the UK, from the rear. Here we look at how a typical rear-loading waste disposal vehicle handles waste, and how this is powered by hydraulic systems. THE COMPАСTOR The compactor, or hopper is located at the back of a rear loading waste disposal vehicle. In this particular model, two hydraulic cylinders (A and B) power a blade which crushes and compacts waste. Hydraulic cylinder C controls the tailgate, which closes off the back of the vehicle to keep all the waste inside the storage area. The compactor HYDRAULIC ARM Bins are lifted into the hopper by a lifting arm powered by a hydraulic cyclinder (D).When the bin is lifted beyond a certain angle, its lid automatically opens and gravity ensures that the contents of the bin finds its way into the waste disposal vehicle. HEAD LIFTING WINCH In order to empty the vehicle once it is full, the entire compactor must be raised up. This is sometimes controlled to a winch system, where a steel cable is pulled by hydraulics (cyclinder E), which in turn pulls up the compactor unit. WASTE EJECTOR With the back end of the vehicle now fully open, another hydraulic system (cyclinder F) is used to either push out all of the waste, or to lift up the storage area of the vehicle, allowing gravity to remove it.
