HOW NEIL PATEL STARTED THE LIFE OF CRAZY EGG FOUNDER 1 Born in London, England. [April 24, 1985] At the age of 2, his parents decided to 2 move to Orange County, California, with Neil and his sister, Amee. 3 Neil lived a middle-class lifestyle. Throughout his childhood, he was surrounded and influenced by entrepreneurs, which gave him the mental drive to be successful. 4 At 15, Neil started to sell burned movies and CDs to students for 2-5 dollars each during his freshman year in high school. 5 Neil then started to sell black boxes and hacked satellite TV cards to classmates and their parents, making a few thousand dollars in profit. 6 At the age of 15, Neil got first job at Knotts Berry Farm, which involved picking up trash, cleaning restrooms and taking care of vomit. Got job at Quality Systems, who paid a few hundred dollars in commission per sale of Kirby vacuums. Neil went door to door convincing homeowners to clean their carpet for free, then afterwards, attempting to sell the $1,600 vacuum after he completed it. Inspired by Monster.com business model, Neil saved up 5,000 dollars from selling black boxes to pay for his new website, Advice Monkey. 8 P Later he then found out he had no money left for advertising. Neil then decided to learn internet marketing. After a few months, Advice Monkey became popular although not successful as the site was not transactional. Took sisters advice and started taking 10 general education college courses at Cypress Community College. 11 Locked in first marketing consulting client, Elpac Electronics at $3,500 per month. 12 Started up Advantage Consulting Services (ACS), an internet marketing agency, in a partnership with sister's boyfriend. 13 Won over a bunch of new clients from the son of Elpac owner, who owned an ad agency. 14 Lost over 1 million dollars by investing into a hosting company called Vision Web Hosting. 15 Neil then co-founded Crazy Egg with business partner, Hiten Shah. crazyegg. Continued to run internet marketing consultancy 16 to pay for Crazy Egg software development. 17 Launched further software applications with no avail. 18 E In 2005, Neil was named one of the top influencers on the web by The Wall Street Journal. 19 In 2006, Neil Started his first blog, ProNet Advertising. 20.1 ProNet Advertising was named Search Engine Journal's "Best Social Media Blog" and ranked in Technorati's Top 100 for the first time. 21 Neil later launched the Quick Sprout blog in 2007. 22 Got funding through True Ventures and launched KlSSmetrics in 2008. 23 Bought place in Hotel in Seattle which had a better entrepreneur community and no state income tax. In 2011, Neil and KissMetrics fought a 12 month class action lawsuit for apparent breach of 24 privacy policies by using flash cookie Technology. A few hundred thousand dollars later, the company was cleared of all charges. 25 In 2012, Neil and Crazy Egg purchased Hello Bar. 26 F Forbes named Neil one of the top 10 marketing experts of 2014. 27 Neil and his partner Hiten Shah moved on from KISSMetrics in 2014. Later in 2014, Neil launched the 100,000 28 monthly visitor challenge on his personal blog, Neilpatel.com 29 Neil has continued to focus on Crazy Egg and his personal blog, educating and inspiring millions of readers globally.
