Every baby is different, and the amount of breastmilk or formula your baby consumes can vary from day to day or even feeding to feeding (especially during growth spurts). Use this as a GENERAL GUIDELINE for bottle feedings. The best way to know how much to feed your baby, and to avoid overfeeding, is to pay attention to his or her hunger and fullness cues. If you have any concerns, talk to your baby's doctor. How OFTEN? How MUCH per bottle feeding? <3 ounces of breastmilk Every 2 to 3 -OR- hours Birth to 1 2-3 ounces of formula Month* 2-4 ounces of breastmilk 8 times -OR- a day 1 to 4 Months 4-6 ounces of formula 3-5 ounces of breastmilk 6 times -OR- a day 4 to 6 Months 6-8 ounces of formula 3-5 ounces of breastmilk 4-5 times -OR- a day 6 to 9 Months 6-8 ounces of formula 3-5 ounces of breastmilk 4 times -OR- a day 9 to 12 Months 6-8 ounces of formula *During the first month, your baby will start with a small volume and slowly increase his intake of breastmilk (once it comes in) or formula to eventually reach 3 ounces. Cluster-fed babies will eat less, more frequently.
