CUSTOMISING YOUR GAR For many people, a car is more than simply a means of getting from A to B; it's a way to express yourself. And if you can't afford your dream car just yet, well then you can always personalise the one you have with some simple modifications. We've come a long way since simply adding fluffy dice to your rear view mirror... EASY INTERIORS There are various simple modifications you can make to the interior of your car to give it a new lease of life. You can add a new gear-shift knob, changing up to something more decorative or more comfortable. You can add steer- ing wheel covers, seat covers, and replace the standard floor mats with something more striking. It's well worth making the inside of your car look good – you'll be seeing it whenever you drive! LED LIGHTING This is a straightforward modification and can be applied to the interior and/or exterior of your vehicle. It's also an inexpensive way to give your car a new look. You don't have to turn your car into a Christmas tree, but add some subtle lighting to the wheels or under your bumpers and you can cast a classy neon glow wherever you go. Do note, though, that there are legal obligations to bear in mind - you can tint the rear windscreen as much as you like, but the front windscreen must allow 75% of light through and the side windows at the front 70%. HOOD ORNAMENTS This is a popular aesthetic modification, with a whole range of options available to give your car a unique look. Be sure to take some care with this one, measuring carefully before drilling into your bonnet to ensure the placement is central. SPOILERS These are also a popular modification, and not only to do they provide a new look but they improve the aerodynamics of the car as well, altering the airflow to increase the downward pressure and allowing for greater handling at speed thanks to better traction. STICKERS Of course, you could repaint your entire vehicle, or even wrap it, but decals for the bodywork are a great way to give it a new look at a more affordable price. Similarly, stickers for your windows can add a dash of character, as can bumper stickers – though be careful, because sometimes these are difficult to remove neatly at a later date. SOUND SYSTEM Not only can you upgrade your sound system, installing a head unit, an amplifier, and a subwoofer, but these days you can make it all compatible with your phone as well, meaning you can stream music directly without a need for CDs. TUNE FOLDER MODE NEW WHEELS Replacing the wheels or upgrading your tyres can be a very effective way of altering the look - and perfor- mance - of your car. Prices will vary depending on a variety of factors, such as brands and quality, but as far as modifications go, they can make a vast difference.
