Changes to the Scottish Fire Regulations

ProAktive www.selfbuildinsure.co.uk CHANGES TO THE SCOTTISH FIRE REGULATIONS Scottish fire regulations, imposed by Scottish Law, are changing from 1st February 2022. These changes will impact all homes in Scotland indluding domestic properties, new builds and homes that have been either extended or renovated before or after the introduction date of the new regulations. The regulations will affect homes regardless of age and property type. In this infographic we go through the changes to the regulations. New Regulations To comply with the regulation changes you must install: • One mains-powered smoke alarm installed in the room most frequently used during the daytime. • One mains-powered smoke alarm installed in every circulation space on each storey such as hallways and landings. • One mains-powered heat alarm installed in each kitchen. • A carbon monoxide alarm where there is a carbon-fuelled appliance or a flue located. Although, this does not need to be interlinked. You must also: • Ensure all smoke and heat alarms are ceiling-mounted and interlinked. Ensure all alarms are regularly maintained and tested in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Ensure alarms are interlinked. These do not have to be mains powered but batteries must be tamper-proof and have long life lithium batteries. • Ensure carbon monoxide alarms have sealed batteries for the duration of their lifespan.
