Here we look at cavity walls, how they work and the advantages and disadvantages of including them in your new home. A cavity wall is made up of two walls, with a hollow space between them. They are commonly constructed as external walls for residential buildings. The cavity is usually between 20 and 50mm wide. The main purpose of a cavity wall is to help prevent rain getting into the inside of a building. The cavity ensures that there is no bridge allowing moisture to pass from one wall to the other. This can make them more time consuming and expensive. helps stop mould from forming. Insulation. The air in the cavity helps insulate the building. Additional insulation, such as spray foam or fibreglass is then added. This helps reduce the cost of heating your home. Condensation. Cold spots on the inside of the cavity can sometimes lead to a build up of condensation. Limited width. The cavity width can sometimes limit the amount of insulation Audio insulation. Cavity walls also help to prevent unwanted noise passing through the wall. you can install.
