de.Activist Changing How We Design Change It is basically a social project that aims to cultivate the culture of Design Activism practice in Singaporean designers. PROJECTS Main Objective THE Confident Activist Capable Designer is to create a new generation of socially engaged designers: ones who care, have the confidence to help, and is more than capable to use design to inspire change. Concerned THE PROJECT'S Target Audience Student desigmers in Singapore Opinionated and passionate Ages 20-25 Aptly trained in design Highly connected and socially conscious THE PROJECT'S A Derived Concept Acquire an opinion and research is to help students get used to live Design Activism while in studying in school. This is done by being exposed to live projects, and encouraged to reflect critically. Test design on target audience Create a relevant design THE PROJECT'S CB Initial Research First-hand examples were sought to find if a problem really exists in Singapore. A survey was conducted on students in Lasalle College of the Arts as well to get primary research. ch Case Studies: Case Studies: Positive Negative Pink Dot Singapore Bad examples everywhere Designed media: logo, mascot, videos, posters Designed media: posters, flyers, banners The campaign's latest gathering in July 2012 had over 15,000 supporters. Even campaign holders admitted that drives always had insufficient turn-ups. Initial Survey: Activist Designers From a survey of 76 students... . only 25% can vaguely define design activism. . and only 7 declared doing live design activism. THE PROJECT'S Motivations Why should anyone care about design activism? In fact, why should designers become design activists? Motivation 01 As a Citizen Activism is influential. It can help make the world much better. Do our part for our community and country by actively improving the world around us with "community initiative and social activism" as DPM Tharman puts it (September 2012). Motivation 02 As a Designer Designers are extremely powerful, as professionals in communication. As the avenues for activism open up, we will inevitably have to face the challenge and responsibility of design's power in activism. Motivation 03 As Yourself Your concerns and beliefs can be best addressed only by yourself. Unhappiness and dissatisfaction can only be resolved by taking action. Speaking up for yourself and your community is doing yourself a favour.
