But how much do you really know about them? Below are 7 facts you may or may not know about the humble radiator. FACT 1 Romans established the first space heating technology with hypocausts in 100BC. These used an underground furnace which heated the space under the floors. III FACT 2 The first closed water heating system was invented by Jean Simon Bonnemain (1743-1830) Rather than heating homes, it was used for incubating chicken eggs! FACT 3 The inventor of the modern radiator was Franz San-Galli in 1857. Though many had contributed in making the radiator, he was the first to patent the invention. FACT 4 Despite their name, radiators transfer heat via convection -not thermal radiation. FACT 5 OCT October 1st is 'Central Heating Day', the day where most people switch on their radiators for the winter. 01 FACT 6 There are many different types of radiators available in the market -including one in the shape of a T-Rex!
