The History of Furniture

The History of Furniture Chairs found in the Mediterranean have been dated back to the second century BC. A range of unique stone furniture has been excavated in Skara Brae, a Neolithic village located in Orkney. The site dates from 3100-2500 BC and due to a shortage of wood in Orkney, the people of Skara Brae built furniture with stone. In the Middle Ages only noblemen and those of the highest rank had chairs in their manors, while everyone else sat on benches or stools. In the 1700s, many houses featured a large room with only one chair for the head of the household - hence the term "chairman." Starting in the 1950s, plastic and fiberglass became increasingly common furniture materials. BROUGHT TO YOU BY CAROLINA FACTORY OUTLET
