Failure to obtain a permit can result in significant fines and penalties, and even demolition of unauthorized construction if it cannot be built to meet code. WHO CAN OBTAIN WHEN IS A BUILDING PERMIT REQUIRED • BUILDING PERMITS PERMITS ARE USUALLY REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING: A property owner who presently occupies or intends to occupy a Single Family residence may obtain a building permit to construct or repair a residence. • New buildings O Plumbing systems and repairs • Additions ● HVAC systems • Renovations • Fences Contractors who are properly licensed may also obtain a building permit, within the limits (each city has a different height restriction) ● Electrical systems and repairs established for their licenses. • Gas line pressure tests It is the property owner's responsibility to provide plans and obtain a permit Visit your city's official or government website to file for a permit application. You can obtain many of these services and permits on the same day that an application is filed.
