Behind The Glass: How To Stay Safe From The Sun

Behend The Glas How To Stay Safe From The Sun Being outside isn't the only time that ultraviolet (UV) rays hit your skin. The two basic types of ultraviolet radiation in sunlight are UVA and UBA rays. UVA has a longer wavelength and is linked to skin aging. It penetrates the skin and can even pass through glass. UVB has a shorter wavelength and is associated with skin burning. Here's how to protect yourself against UV radiation while indoors. Car Car windshields are fabricated with laminated glass, which can block 99% of UV exposure. However, while most side and rear windows can help shield against shorter UVB rays, longer UVA rays can still pass. Use special tinting for car windows that offers protection from UVA light. Be sure to check your local laws first, since some statesplace restrictions on window tints. Wear polarized sunglasses, gloves and other protective clothing. Home Whether you have bow, picture or double-hung windows, clear glass can let in up to 75% of UVA light. Add a protective tint or film to your home windows. • Rearrange furniture so that it has the least amount of exposure to the sun or put slip covers over furnishings to protect the underlying upholstery. • Use window blinds or shades during peak sun hours. Use a broad-spectrum sunscr een if you sit by a window. • Arrange your workspace or chair so that you're not in direct sunlight. glass.com The Industry's Home Address. glass.com Sources: glass.com/windows-and-doors/other | info.glass.com/glass-protection-against-uv-rays smartskincare.com/skinprotection/uv-indoors mdanderson.org/publications/focused-on-health/what-s-the-difference-between-uva-and-uvb-rays-.h15-1592991
