American Living Room Evolution Since the 1950s
How Key Living Room Features Evolved Through the Decades 1950 Formica and chrome were in, sofas were classic, and the TVs were very old! 1960 The decade started with browns, leather had a vogue, and TVs came in cabinets. 1970 Lacquered hardwood furniture, TVs became standalone, and wallpaper was 'interesting'! 1980 Lighter wood used for furniture, portable TVs, and the study prefigured the man cave. 1990 Men chilled in garages, TV screens got bigger, and 'shabby chic' became a thing. 2000 Dining rooms had non-matching chairs, TV screens were wall-mounted.... and they were the focus of the man cave. 2010 Coffee tables improvised, TVs became media centers, and the man cave provided many forms of entertainment. | 2020 RENTCafé
