THE HISTORY OF THE MODERN BIBLE One of the oldest published books in the world, the production of the modern Bible has gone through many changes in its lifetime. Surviving wars, schisms, and the rise and fall of governments; today's Bible has held resilient against the test of time. IN THE BEGINNING The Bible dates back to before 443 BC, which was when the Hebrew Old Testament of 39 books was completed. (443 ВС 39 ВОOKS 260 YEARS LATER 260 years later, the Greek New Testament was completed. From this time forward, the Bible went through a series of changes. These changes were to make sure the Bible was historically correct and understandable for different peoples. THE FIRST ENGLISH BIBLE In 1384, the Bible was first translated into English by John Wycliffe, a pastor, professor at Oxford University, translator, and Scholastic Philosopher. 1384 This English Bible was almost entirely handwritten. JOHN WYCLIFFE THE PRINTING PRESS One of the biggest advancements in history, the first printing press, is arguably why The Bible exists so readily in today's society. Johann Gutenberg invented the first printing press in 1455. 1455 FIRST PRINTED BOOK The first book ever printed was the Gutenberg Bible, which was printed in the Latin language and immaculately designed. THE CHANGE OF THRONE England's Queen Elizabeth died and the crown was left to King James in 1603. The citizens felt secure with Queen Elizabeth and feared the 1603 Crown's change. As James found his place in monarchy, he was confronted by many political and religious groups, one of which lead to the idea of translating the Bible into the time's current linguistics. PRESENTING THE BIBLE TO KING JAMES THE KING JAMES VERSION King James appointed the job to fifty of the country's finest language scholars and set a series of rules to remove all bias from the 1611 НOLY translation.
