CIGARS& SOLDIERS TOBACCO ON THE FRONTLINE Tobacco products such as cigars, pipes, and cigarettes have had a long association with the American military - as far back as the Revolutionary War. Tobacco has not only helped fund American wars, but products like cigars provide comfort, calm, and a little slice of home for our soldiers. TOBACCO: FUNDING WAR EFFORTS Grown as a "cash crop" tobacco became less profitable for U.S. farmers when Britain's King George began taxing every aspect of the production starting in 1733. 1733 With a block on export to Europe, production of tobacco dropped significantly during the Revolutionary war. 1776 50% By 1860, tobacco production more than doubled * compared to 1775, with being consumed domestically From 1780-81, the 10,000 the equivalent of 10 million pounds! BY 1975 THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE REMOVED TOBACCO FROM GI RATIONS PNITED STATES O AND BEGAN IMPLEMENTING SMOKING REGULATIONS WITHIN THE MILITARY. CIGARS FOR WARRIORS Cigars for warriors is a program that makes it their top priority to disperse premium cigars and accessories to troops serving in combat zones. They also take special request for cigars from military personnel on Forces Afloat in Combat Zone, long term deployments OCONUS in 3rd world environments and other areas.
