STAYING HYDRATED AT THE BEACH THIS SUMMER With the hot sun, sand, and salt, it's easy to become dehydrated when at the beach. Follow these tips to stay hydrated this summer: BRING A COOLER STOCK UP AT HOME AVOID ALCOHOL Pack a cooler with plenty of drinks before heading to the beach. Don't forget the ice packs! Invest in a water delivery service at home to ensure your bottled water supply is always fully stocked. Avoid drinking too much alcohol on the beach, as it dehydrates you. If you do drink alcohol, supplement with water. BRING FRUITS MONITOR YOUR & VEGGIES PREVENT THIRST WATER INTAKE Pack fruits and veggies as snacks, as they contain various levels of water and the all-important nutrient potassium. Try to drink the recommend eight 8- ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, on half a gallon. Drink water throughout the day BEFORE you begin to feel thirsty. The signs and symptoms of dehydration range from minor to severe and include: -Increased thirst Dry mouth and swollen tongue Confusion -Weakness -Dizziness -Palpitations -Sluggishness Fainting If severe symptoms occur, it's important to call your doctor or go to the hospital's emergency department.
