Breaking your digestive system down for better digestion

anatomy: BREAKING DOWN YOUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM for better Dizestion We all know that we need food to fuel the body. But do you know how all that food turns Into what your body needs for energy, growth, and cell repalr? It's a complex process'carrled out by your digestive system-along with the help of nerves, hormones, bacterla, and blood. So what exactly Is digestlon and how does It happen? Let's take a look. Mouth This Is the first stop In the road to digestlon. Food enters the mouth, where the teeth break It down Into smaller pleces and sallva molstens those pleces for easler swallowing. Sallva has a second task as well: to begln to break down the carbohydrates In food. Esophagus Once swallowing Is over, the digestive process don't have to think about It or actually do anythIng. This Involuntary actlon Is called perlstalsls, accomplished by muscles contracting and relaxIng. The esophagus, a muscular tube In the chest, propels food and liquld from the throat to Its next stop. gIns, and you 3- Stomach Once Inside the stomach, food Is stored, then churned and mixed with digestive Julces, breaklng down Into even smaller pleces. Stomach aclds help break down the bonds between food's proteln so the digestlve enzymes can eventually break It Into amlno acıds-whlch will be passed Into the bloodstream In the next step of the digestive process. The food, whlch needs to become even smaller to leave the stomach, Is eventually turned Into a paste, then slowly emptled Into Small Intestine the small Intestine. The largest part of your digestive system-whlch measures 22 feet on average-does most of the food digesting. The pancreas, liver, and gallbladder produce and store digestlve Julces that are down the paste. Eventually, the nutrlent molecules become so small the body can absorb them Into the bloodstream through the Intestinal 5- here to Large Intestine (or Colon) walls and make use of them. Any materlal that's leftover after digestlon Is over, such as fiber, now moves here. The maln role of the large Intestine Is to remove water from the undigested materlal and turn the waste products Into a solld so the body can excrete It. What remalns of the food after almost all of the nutrlents are pulled out then travels to the next step.
