The Anatomy of a Nurse

The Anatomy of a Nurse Intelligence After 2 to 6 years of nursing school, nurses are relied on to understand and remember all of the details of each patient in their care, including meds, history, allergies, and symptoms. Communication Listening to patients, providing accurate medical info, working with other nurses and doctors, and assessing patients are just a few reasons why nurses need excellent communication skills. Emotional Awareness Nurses must be empathetic so that they can understand their patients needs and symptoms. Nurses deal with (and help others manage) stress, trauma, human suffering, and medical emergencies, all while working long shifts in fast paced environments. Patience Through their entire shifts, nurses face emergencies, stress, and difficulties with patients, which they must be able to cope with calmly and efficiently. Physical Endurance Nurses often stand for long periods of time and aare required to lift heavy weights. Because of emergencies nurses also may have unpredictable eating schedules. Groundedness With all that nurses conquer on a daily basis, they rely on feeling centered and balanced no matter what is going on around them.
