23andMe A YEAR IN GENETICS 2013 marked a historic year in personal genetics. Between the US Supreme Court ruling, Angelina Jolie and the FDA, there were pivotal moments that moved us all forward. AUGUST 2013 We published findings regarding the genetics behind stretch marks, adding to our understanding of skin elasticity and perhaps giving us more insight into new treatments for the condition that affects many new moms. Men get stretch marks too, but these are often the result of rapid weight loss or gain. SEPTEMBER 2013 OCTOBER INSIDE THE TWITTER MON FAST OMPA 2013 We launched our Udacity educational program, joining forces to create a groundbreaking online course, Tales of the Genome, enrolling thousands of students this month. While researchers expected the DNA to look like Neanderthal DNA, it was actually much more like the DNA from another ancient human cousin, the Denisovans.
