UNDP of China Response to Wenchuan Earthquake

UNITED NATIONS UN DP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME CHINA DISASTER MANAGEMENT Building back greener & better Empowered lives. Resilient nations. 2008 WENCHUAN EARTHQUAKE Over 45 million people were affected by this earthquake. approximately approximately over 70,000 18,000 374,643 LIVES CLAIMED MISSING INJURED 6,500,000 OVER 2,000,000 JOBS LOST homes were destroyed. Over half of these were in the agricultural sector. 30,000,000 people lost most of their assets. 2,000,000,000 USD ECONOMIC LOSS UNDP IMMEDIATELY MOBILISED & DELIVERED more than 2,000,000 USD worth of relief and assistance With funding from the Central Emergency Relief Fund, UNDP delivered: 3,200 TENTS 62,000 QUILTS 10,016 EMERGENCY 65,000 BLANKETS LIGHTS 40,000 PEOPLE IN AFFECTED AREAS. An additional TO 70,000 USD of relief items were distributed through other programmes in affected areas. UNDP With support from Bureau of Crisis Prevention and Recovery, UNDP China also spent: 100,000 USD ON Emergency coordination, rapid field assessments & facilitation of international experience sharing as per the government's request.
