He held charity poker events throughout the 70s at the Eccentric Club. 100 to 300 players, playing five card draw for €100-€200 per game, equates to TERR ROGE OFFER TWO CHA WIN OR COR TO NORYE 12 a lot of money for those days! Derek Webb, Nick Cook and Derek Baxter were notable English players that attended over the years. But Terry was about to change European Poker forever... 1979 TO Fabulous Terry Rogers Goes to Vegas! LAS VEGAS The story begins as Terry watches a high stakes poker NEVAD A game in Vegas. He was so thrilled that he brought No Limit Texas Hold'em back to Ireland. 1981 Irish Open Established Colette Doherty goes down in history as the first winner of the legendary tournament. 1989 Noel Furlong becomes the second player to win twice. Furlong's poker winnings to date exceed $1,100,000! 1991 - Colette Strikes Again! Colette Doherty wins a second time in 1991. She went on to use the £22,000 prize to enter the World Series. 1999 Terry Rogers sadly passes away, Liam Flood keeps the tournament alive. Liam Flood was awarded the 2nd place trophy in 1984 (pictured) and 1st prize in 1990 and 1996. 2005 IRISH The Irish Open becomes the Irish Open as it begins sponsoring the PP. OPEN tournament and from then on contributes hugely to its growth and popularity. 2006 - The Irish Open goes Online! launches online qualification for the Irish Open. As a result, the 2006 tournament attracted 339 players and had to be moved to Jury's Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin. 2007 The prize pool this year is a whopping €2million. The winner, Marty Smyth goes on to become the highest earning European player of the year. 2010 - 2011 This year sees the number of entrants to the main event increase to over 700 players. By 2011, the cumulative number of entrants over the 30 year lifespan reaches over 7,000. 2012 - Paddy Power live up to their name! By 2012, tens of thousands of players have tried to qualify online through Paddy Power since the launch of online satellites. 2013 lan Simpson walks away with €265,000 and a fiancée.
