TeaVolution

The American TeaVolution In 1773, the British colonies in America were under the rule of the crown. The mad king, George III, imposed harsh taxes on his subjects, especially on tea. A group of rebellious colonists decided that they had enough! In an eventknown as The Boston Tea Party, they sneaked onto a cargo ship teapigs and threw the valuable tea into Boston Harbour. This act of defiance would trigger the American Revolution which saw the birth of a new nation independent of home rule. Tea was a symbol of the British loyalists, the Americans decided that they should avoid it, lest they fall back under the rule of the crown. They turned to Coffee for their daily pick-me-up. This became their national beverage, while tea was banished from their shores! The crafty Brits though, knew that they would get fed-up of coffee, and start to crave tea again.
