Singapore Six Must Try Foods
SINGAPORE SIX MUST-TRY FOODS 2 4 1. FISH HEAD CURRY The main ingredients in fish head curry are the head from a red snapper and vegetables, ordinarily okra and eggplants. The fish head is stewed in the curry with the assorted vegetables and typically served with bread or rice. 2. FRIED CARROT CAKE Fried carrot cake doesn't actually contain carrots but is made with steamed rice flour and shredded white daikon that's fried. This is a very common dish and comfort food in Singapore. 3. PORK RIB TEA This tea is also called "meat bone tea" but there is no lea actually in it. Meaty pork ribs simmer for hours in a broth of various herbs and spices to make this dish. 4. KAYA TOAST Those in Singapore have Kaya toast as a snack or consider it their breakfast staple. Kaya (Coconut Jam), sugar, pandan, coconut milk and eggs are normally mixed together and then served on toast and eaten along with a cup of tea or coffee. 5. SUGAR CANE JUICE Sugar cane juice is a favorite beverage sold in Singapore food courts. I's juice extracted from pressed sugar cane, which some also refer to as "sugar cane water". 6. BBQ STINGRAY This Singaporean seafood dish is made by barbecuing stingray - females are preferred over males – and then served along with sambal sauce on top of it. If a stingray can't be found, white fish is used as an alternative. IHG
